Call for Speakers!!! 

OVERVIEW

ISNA’s Annual Conference provides a unique experience for school foodservice and industry professionals. Conference caters to you and the challenges you face on a daily basis by providing targeted learning sessions to help you navigate the ever changing school nutrition environment. This year's theme is In The Moment: Interact, Connect, Grow

To guarantee conference program content that is timely, relevant and targets the attendees’ needs, the professional development committee will review and rate all proposals. The committee may supplement programming by inviting speakers to address specific topics as identified.


SESSION INFORMATION

ISNA will only accept Proposals meeting the following formats:

  • Education Sessions: 60-minute, interactive lecture session on a specific topic that is presented and discussed.
      • Take place on Thursday, November 8, 2018 through Saturday, November 10, 2018.
      • Include a brief question and answer period within the 60 minute presentation.
      • Panel sessions are limited to 3 speakers/panelists.
      • Sessions are set in theatre style and seating typically accommodates approx. 100 attendees per session.

 

  • Roundtable Sessions: Small group discussions of approximately 60-100 attendees. These small sessions encourage participation and peer-to-peer engagement. Topics should be current and may be relevant to the regulatory program or general operations.
      • Take place on Thursday, November 8, 2018 through Saturday, November 10, 2018.
      • Attendees expect to actively participate in topic discussions in groups for 60 minutes.
      • Are limited to 3 speakers/panelists.
      • Speaker(s) act as facilitator
      • Sessions are set in rounds and seating typically accommodates 100 attendees per session.
  • Education and Roundtable Sessions are NOT to be used as a sales or promotional platform for any speaker’s company, products or services. ISNA reserves the right to halt speakers from this practice if the situation arises during their presentation.

 

SPEAKER INFORMATION

  • Speakers agree to be available any day on which ISNA assigns the session.
  • Speakers do not need to be ISNA members; however, if a proposal is accepted ALL speakers must register as conference attendees.
  • ISNA does not provide speaker fees or travel expense reimbursement for education session speakers.
  • Speakers are expected to make their own travel arrangements unless otherwise mutually agreed upon in writing.
      • If the speaker plans to attend the conference only on the day of his/her presentation, he/she will be given complimentary registration only for the day of the presentation.  ISNA members only receive complimentary registration if they present multiple hour sessions.
      • If the speaker plans to attend the full conference, current ISNA membership is required to receive the full registration member rate.  

 

SUBMISSION INFORMATION

  • Proposals must be submitted to Sheri Shipp, Executive Director, by May 11, 2018 to be considered. Email: [email protected], Fax: 317-610-0071 or P.O. Box 915, Brownsburg, IN 46112.
  • The primary contact must provide contact information for ALL speakers, including name, phone number and email address. 
  • Speakers understand that ISNA does not permit hard copy handouts containing any promotional information to attendees.  
  • All speakers must accept, sign and return to ISNA the Education Session Speaker Agreement Packet and any PowerPoint Presentation to be used.
  • If your proposal is selected, presentations must be submitted to ISNA which reserves the right to revise presentation titles, reassign the Key Area and/or edit the program summary for promotional and program materials. 
  • Changes to submitted presentations may not be made without permission from ISNA. 
  • Speakers agree that the presentation becomes the property of ISNA and may be archived for future use.    
  • ISNA may capture (audio/video) selected sessions.

 

PROPOSAL CONTENT

Proposals should focus on one of the following key areas: 

Nutrition
Operations
Administration  
Communications & Marketing 
  • Special consideration will be given to proposals that meet the ISNA 2018 Annual Conference Theme: In The Moment: Interact, Connect, Grow
  • Presentation Information: Presentation Focus (Key Area), Title, Learning Objectives, Description, Session Format (roundtable or education session), and Target Audience.
  • Speaker Information: Is the speaker an ISNA Member, Name, Credentials, Title, Company/School District, Phone, Email, Level of Education, Field of Study, Background experience with the Presentation Topic along with list of presentations/locations made within the past 12 months.

 

PROPOSAL EVALUATION CRITERIA

The PD committee will evaluate and rate your proposal based on meeting all of the following criteria:

  • Accurate,Timely and Relevant Content
      • Engaging and appropriate title
      • Accurate and up-to-date information
      • Relevant to school nutrition
  • NO Product/Vendor Commercials
      • Commercials/proprietary information for particular products, services, vendors, and promotion of an exhibit booth ARE NOT PERMITTED in the Call for Proposal, the PowerPoint presentation and during the sessions at conference. 
      • If commercial/promotional content or promotion of an exhibit booth is included, your proposal will not be accepted for the educational programming.
      • Food demonstrations, food samples/food tastings/commercials/proprietary information for particular products, services, vendors, and promotion of an exhibit booth ARE NOT PERMITTED during the education sessions.  Any accepted Roundtable or Education Session speaker which provides food samples will not be invited to submit future Call for Proposals.
      • For PowerPoint presentations, company logos are only allowed on the opening presentation slide.
  • Concise Learning Objectives
      • Descriptive learning objectives that address how participants will benefit from the session
      • Learning Objectives should be action statements, defined in terms of knowledge, skills or attitudes participants will learn attending the session
